Project Brief
Design a high quality and innovative hotel that responds to its surrounding context. In particular acknowledgement to the existing built form and enhancement of the immediate site characteristics, namely heritage row housing and contemporary aspiration.
Design Elements
The proposed building optimizes the site by retaining most of the meaningful existing structure. Giving new life to the existing row housing units by repurposing them as the hotel lobby. The podium form, scale and materiality are designed to create a dialogue with the existing row housing units. A contemporary gesture of large-scale Neolith Iron Corten Satin tiles arranged in a brick bond pattern contextualise the podium with the existing bluestone and red brick walls. The tower element above the podium extends up to reference the existing platform of Bohem Apartments nearby, providing an orderly transition from the large scale building complex to lower level buildings.
